Enid Johnstone

Honorary Life Member

Starting as an athlete at the age of 16, competing for Edinburgh Southern Harriers and EAC and still actively involved in EAC as both a coach and a team manager Enid’s enthusiasm for the sport has not diminished in over 50 years.

Daughter Pamela competed with distinction for ESH, winning age group titles and a GB Junior international vest in the 400MH and for many years husband Norman was the Treasurer of the club. Enid was team Manager for the ESH and Edinburgh Woollen Mill YDL lower league and later EAC girls with the team enjoying great success. She was also president of the YDL Scottish and only stepped down from both last year 2024. She was also team manager for all age groups of female cross country for over 30 years and still manages the U17s.

She is a Level 3 Sprint and Middle-Distance coach and coached Emily Dudgeon and Eloise Walker as youngsters, with both continuing in the sport and gaining GB representation honours and selected for Scottish Commonwealth Games teams. She continues to coach a large group at Meadowbank and works with Jessica Taylor and Elsa McGregor, who are enjoying success as part of GB teams in Hill Running and Mountain Running. Generations of athletes in the club still remember their involvement with Enid’s group and have made lifelong friendships. They appreciate the hours she has put into ensuring they reach their potential.
