Track and Field Report for June

The Track and Field session is well underway with a busy time for all the Athletes, Coaches, Officials and Team Managers.

8th June Scottish National Athletics League: After 3 matches EAC are currently lying in 3rd place behind leaders VPCOG and Aberdeen. With some fine performances and PBs the U17, U20 and Senior men came top in all 3 categories and one of the highlights was a legal 7.87 from Stephen McKenzie, only 2 centimetres short of the Commonwealth Games qualifying standard.
We are particularly short in the Women's U17 and U20 age groups, this is an excellent opportunity for competition and to support the Club.

14th  June Marsa MLT, Malta: Matilda Brockley (U20) achieves the Commonwealth Standard in the Triple Jump, with a Jump of 12.44m and on the 26th May Matilda had a wind assisted jump of 12.64m

15th  June Forth Valley League Match 2: The second match in the Forth Valley Div 1, we finished in 3rd place, 30 points behind Team Borders, this was big improvement from the first match where we were 5th.
This is a development league, U11 to U15, with may of our Young Athletes competing for the first time and giving others the opportunity to try a different event from what they usually compete in

We still have more room for improvement as we have places in the team that need to be filled, for example we were missing 2 relay teams which would add at least another 20 points to our total.

Overall we were 3rd in Track events and 1st in the Field events.

21st Superteams: The Scottish Athletics Superteams Final was held in Dundee and we had 2 teams representing the Club.
the Superteams are for 12 years and under and there are 32 teams of 4 Athletes who have qualified from all over Scotland.
The competition consists of 4 events per team, 75m, Long jump, Turbo Javelin and a Relay.
Our A Team was 6th and our B Team 22nd, a some of our top results were Mila McGregor 3.96m Long Jump, Thomas Logg 15.34m Turbo Javelin.

22nd National Relays: We were well represented at the National Relay Championships in Dundee with 13 Teams competing and coming home with a clutch of Medals. 1st Senior Men 4x100m Alexander Poustie-Williamson, Samuel Okpaje, Methembe Ndlovu, Omar Bajo

Great PBs for Jez Cumings, P-Y Koening, Quito Comacho and Beth Ansell who ran 4.14 and we think replaced Violet Blair at Number 29 on the all time Scottish rankings. Well done guys! (Sandy Cameron)

22nd June Northern Ireland Masters: On his first race since the 1980s. Mike Wood ran 69.50 for the 400m, which was good enough for Gold in the 65-70 age group!

29th June Mannheim , Germany: Omar Bajo was part of the team representing Scotland in the U20 4x400m Relay, breaking the 15 year old Scotish National Record with a time of 3:19.36

29th June Youth Development League: The 3rd Match in the League, held in a sunny Grangemouth, a very close result and although we still finished 2nd behind Giffnock North, but this time we were only 1.5 points behind them.
