Jake Wightman competed in the 1500m final at the European Championships in Birmingham

With 200m to go Jake was battling with Jake Hayward for the lead , but it was not to be with Jake falling back to 6th place with a time of 3:37.18

A disappointed Jake said
‘I don’t know . . . I felt like I was in the perfect spot again,’ said Jake, clearly crestfallen and upset at a missed opportunity in a home champs.

‘I still relaxed in that last 100m, which I didn’t expect to at all, so there was nothing I could have done, but I just don’t understand why I felt so bad again.

‘I’ve had a couple of really good sessions, and I thought that was enough. I’m disappointed, very disappointed.’
